It's all Relative

When people read that I'm at 125 pounds and want to get back down to 12o pounds, they must think I'm crazy or anorexic. But, as I've mentioned before, I'm a somewhat tiny, petite woman. At my heaviest I was a size 10, and the word "chubby," was an apt adjective for me at that time.

Yesterday I was speaking with a girlfriend of mine who has also been dieting. She was a size 14 and is now a size 10. However, although I looked "chubby" at size 10, my friend looks fabulous. That's because she's a bit taller than me and a much more full bodied woman with all sorts of great curves. Her goal is to get down to a size 8 for her wedding in May, and I'm positive she'll look stunning.

I'm a size 4 right now, and everyone says I look great. If my friend were to get down to a size 4, however, she would probably look horrible and anorexic.

It's all relative. Me at 140 pounds looks heavy, but another woman at 140 pounds could be at her optimum weight. So instead of focusing on what other people weigh or what size they fit into, its better to focus more on what your optimum weight and size should be.

  1. this is soooo very true...I can squeeze into a size 4 or 6 at 140 pounds and 5'4 because of my dimensions...and look chubby because of the curves....for me, 125-130 is the weight that looks healthy - size is not the indicator so much. Oh, and the question, at age 47, is always, "But when you sit down, can you still button your pants?" It doesn't matter how many situps and dance/exercise routines I do, that's what it comes down to! (how I look/feel standing up doesn't count) Like you, I am determined to get a semblance of my "younger" look back. I never dreamed I would have to work so very hard to get there.

  2. Amazing the amount of work you have to do just to stay in place weight-wise once you hit 45, isn't it?
