Slow is Fast and Fast is Slow

This is a pretty good article explaining why only losing 1-2 pounds a week is actually faster if you permanently want to lose weight then any starvation/fad diet: http://correct-weight-loss.net/2009/12/24/when-losing-weight-slow-is-fast-and-fast-is-slow/

Better to only lose 30 pounds in a year and keep it off then lose 30 pounds in 2 months and gain it all back plus some.

  1. I agree that slow weight loss is what we should all strive for. However, it's still my delicious fantasy to wake up thin.

  2. Thank you! That was a good article.

My only nitpicking point would be that the 1-2 pounds a week is an /average/ loss. Sometimes my body will lose 1/2 a pound, sometimes it'll gain a couple ounces. Then the next week I'll be down 3 pounds without having done anything special. The body has its own schedule of when it will let go of pounds.

  3. When I started losing weight there were many weeks when I lost not a single ounce. Losing weight takes patience. But, it's worth it in the end. I have so much more energy and am so much happier with myself since I lost the weight.

  4. Personally, I think 1/2 - 1 pound a week is optimum. Weight loss will be slower, but I think more lasting. Most of us don't make big changes well. To lose 2 pounds weekly you need to have a 1000 calorie deficit daily. Creating a 250-500 calorie deficit isn't so difficult. In fact, I think the reason most diets fail is that they require you to do things that aren't doable over the long haul.
